Paavo Bakteeri, age 21.

Pavonidas the Bacterian, also known by the informal Orcish title Paavo Bakteeri and later Emperor of the Bacterian Empire Pavonidas Bacterionema I, was the bastard offspring of an Orc and a pure-strain Bacterian. It was Paavo Bakteeri who first introduced the Orcish genes into the highly adaptive bacterian genetic pool.

As a half-breed, he was an outcast from both the Orcish and the Bacterian societies, until he was unexpectedly able to rise into the governing body of the Bacterian Empire. Today, many Bacterians have some Orcish genes.

Early life

The illegitimate child of Escherichia Bacterionema and Sërmo of Berserk, Pavonidas was an outcast from both the Orcish and the Bacterian societies. Due to his half-breed background, he did not have a claim by birthright to the family names of either Bacterionema or Berserk.

At age 20, he seeked recognition from Clan Berserk. According to Orcish customs, he was to duel with the clan's most formidable warrior, Paavo the Berserk, to be accepted into the clan. He failed to defeat his opponent and was rejected by the Clan Elders. It was here that he gained an everlasting hatred for the Orcs, and Clan Berserk especially. Before leaving the Council chambers, he swore revenge.

Ascension

With the death of Emperor Gracilibacillus the Eleventh, the Empire was left without a leader. Upon hearing his mother, Escherichia Bacterionema was related to the Imperial family, Pavonidas was determined to ascend to the throne. He assassinated many of his would-be competitors, including High Chancellor Birobidzh Enoth Phagus.

Pavonidas assumed the moniker Pavonidas Bacterionema I and became the new Emperor of the Bacterian Empire.

First Bacterian War

Hungry for revenge, it was Paavo Bakteeri who was responsible for the First Bacterian War, as he ordered the initial assault on Aldaain to avenge his fate. From aboard the BES Hammer Revelation, the massive mothership that had led the Bacterian expedition into the Delta Quadrant, he released deadly bioweapons upon the world and began the Siege of Aldaain. Meanwhile, the rest of the Bacterian fleet were ordered to search and exterminate all members of Clan Berserk.

Billions died in this violent conflict until a cease fire was declared following the HemmoCruiser Incident, where the United Orcs made first contact with the Gigerdi Federation.

HemmoCruiser Incident

The true reasons behind the Bacterian cessation of hostilities are unknown to the general public. While some say it was the threat of another war with the newly discovered Gigerdi Federation, others speculate court politics within the Empire were more influential in the decision. This is supported by the fact that Emperor Pavonidas Bacterionema I was forced to step down just as the Incident began to unfold.

News of Pavonidas the Bacterian abdicating the throne reached the Bacterian strike fleet during the pivotal moment of the HemmoCruiser Incident, ending the conflict just as the Bacterians were ready to ensure their final victory. Although the HemmoCruiser III was destroyed, its cryopods remained intact, saving the lives of millions of beings onboard the giant vessel.

Many at the time believed it was because the Bacterians did not wish to open another front in the war with the Gigerdians, and the mechanisms at play within the Empire were never revealed. In fact, the mother of Pavonidas, Escherichia Bacterionema, had a key role in the events. Using her ties to the Bacterian religious caste, the priestesses of the Temple of Bacterion, she had managed to organize a counter-coup in the Empire that eventually dethroned Pavonidas.

Death sentence & resurrection

After Pavonidas had stepped down, ending the War, the Bacterionema family disappeared from the public eye altogether. Power in the Empire briefly shifted to the religious caste, who demanded harsh punishment. Pavonidas was later sentenced in secret to the worst possible fate in the Bacterian Empire - death by submersion in an active singularity.

What was unknown at that time was that prior to the death sentence, Pavonidas had secretly cloned himself with assistance from the Order of the Eternal Eclipse. While his body was destroyed in the black hole, his consciousness was saved at the last possible moment by an unknown telepath, transported into a new, cloned body.

Although the Order was destroyed in the aftermath of the War, many of these clones, retaining the personality and memories of the original, later appeared in various high governing positions of the Bacterian government with false identities - including the Ambassador of the Empire to the Peace Station.

During the Peace Station Era

Although the cloned version of Pavonidas acting as the Ambassador of the Empire had altered his looks and backstory, Pavonius the Berserk was able to recognize his origin, causing the first major diplomatic incident on the newly constructed Station. Many of the other Ambassadors were reluctant to believe such an outrageous claim, but the true identity of the ambassador was later confirmed by genetic analysis. Additionally, a powerful telepath visiting the Station, known as the Spirit Walker, independently verified this identity.

Another ambassador was quickly brought aboard the Station, and the clone of Pavonidas disappeared from the public eye without a trace. In secret, he went on to re-establish the Order of the Eternal Eclipse within the Empire.

Legacy

Later on, the cloned Pavonidas married Bertha, and had a daughter named Lydia, who went on to briefly take control of the Bacterian Empire some time after her father passed away.
