Gigerdi Federation Ground Operations Command
The Gigerdi Federation Ground Operations Command (or GFGOC) was the first interplanetary force of the Gigerdian species used for planetary combat missions. It was commissioned shortly after the formation of the Gigerdi Federation Aerospace Command, since a need arose for the Gigerdi Federation to also be able to conduct large-scale operations in planets.
The GFGOC had two sub-branches: The Gigerdi Federation Fleet Marine Force (GFFMF) which operated in capital ships and undertook all boarding operations, and the regular ground forces used in planetary invasions. The GFFMF was considered to be more of an elite force of the two branches, since often the fleet marines were used in boarding operations which led to the capture of high-ranking officers of the enemy ship's crew along with useful information. Several special forces teams of the times were also composed of mainly GFFMF troopers.
Before the war with the H'vos, the GFGOC was merged with the Gigerdi Federation Aerospace Command to create a unified command for both of the branches. This was the first and only time in Gigerdian history when such an easy and dynamic chain of command had been established for both branches. As the GF was finally disbanded, the GFGOC was a shadow of its' former self: almost a thousand years of operations had changed it, and as the Federation seized to function, so did the GFGOC inside the GFAC. The GFGOC cannot look at the modern Gigerdi Alliance Military Ground Forces with happiness in its' eyes, since after the formation of the Gigerdi Alliance, the organization for the ground forces of the GA were completely reworked with the introduction of the mindless soldiers of the Clone Infantry. Unfortunately for the GFGOC, the technology of warfare had evolved and moved on, and during this transition it was branded a hopelessly obsolete organization.
All in all, the GFGOC inside the GFAC represents a time in the Gigerdian military tradition when soldiers fighting on planets had not been replaced by mindless clone armies marching to the tune of the commander's Neurolink transmissions.
