With the development of small scale high-energy production and storage technology, energy weapon sidearms have slowly replaced slugthrowers as the standard sidearms, although both are still in use. Energy weapons can be further divided into the following sub-types:
Disruptors are a class of high-tech energy weapons disrupting targets at a sub-atomic level.
Laser pistols employ focused photons, which cause damage through the application of intense heat.
Plasma pistols fire a bust of super-heated gas. The clip contains the gas and a disposable battery to charge the electromagnetic pulse of the weapon. These weapons may fire single shot, single fire as multi, or full auto.
Pulse pistols are a class of weapons causing electric damage.
Exotic energy weapons use some previously unknown mechanism.
